Canada’s Biggest Garden Party

garden party

Canada’s biggest garden party is happening this weekend, July 22 and 23, in Ottawa. It’s part of The Garden Promenade,  a Canada 150 project led by the Canadian Garden Council in collaboration with Gardens Ottawa.

A showcase of over 70 unique garden experiences, including the Rideau Canal UNESCO World Heritage site, bicycle and pedestrian pathways, historical landmarks and attractions, The Garden Promenade is presenting a number of special events in 2017, and you don’t want to miss this one.

For starters, an all-day garden party will stretch right into the evening at Dows Lake tomorrow, July 22. Free events and activities for the family are slated from 10 am to 10:30 pm.

Kids will appreciate the facepainting, glitter tattoos, plush pony rides and giant JENGA games. Grownups can enjoy the flowers along the Boardwalk, savour the garden party menu specials and cocktails offered at the Dows Lake Pavilion restaurants,  tour Commissioners park with NCC’s Landscape Architect, Tina Liu, and explore the Dominion Arboretum with gardening guru Ed Lawrence.

The day finishes with fireworks at 9:30 pm.

There’s also a Fairy Garden Party tomorrow,  Saturday, July 22, at Lansdowne Park in the Civic Garden. Take the kids for storytelling, crafts, #Boccato gelato treats and more fun.  The event starts at 1 and continues to 2:30.
