Do you love sidewalk sales, free workshops, family activities and food samples? There will be roaming performers, live bands, a classic car show, play areas, fashion shows and bike parades. Want to cast a fly? Watch a martial arts demo? Dance to salsa, or learn how to make it? On Saturday September 15th from 11:00am – 5:00pm Wellington West businesses are showing off.
Six years ago, the first Taste of Wellington West was held. It was a humble affair – a competition between area restaurants in search of the best asparagus recipe. Today, the event has grown into a day-long celebration of the amazing and unique area that is Wellington West, inviting people to spend the day taking in shops, tastes, and entertainment along Wellington St W.
This year’s festival features dozens of restaurants and food shops offering a taste of their wares, a giant sidewalk sale, live entertainment, and special stuff just for kids. Programming runs from 11 am to 5 pm, and is topped off with an after-party from 5 – 7 pm at the Elmdale House Tavern, featuring the legendary Bill Jupp and his Sextet.
The day kicks off at 11 am with a special performance by Hey Buster! for the little ones at the Hintonburger/Elmdale House Stage, located outside in The Hintonburger parking lot. Other performers for the day include Mike Essoudry’s Mash Potato Mashers, Reverb Syndicate, Crown Vic, Still Dangerous, Tall Trees, and The Fenton Brothers Band. There will also be a variety of street performers to keep you entertained, ongoing performances outside Art & Soul, special play areas featuring giant inflatables to keep the kids occupied, and the return of a classic car show, presented in partnership with Fab Gear 64. Kids are also encouraged to take part in the big bike parade starting at 11 am at Parkdale Park, next to the Parkdale Market.
The ever-popular food tasting will also be back this year, from 1:30 – 3:30 pm or while supplies last. Visitors will get a chance to taste delicious culinary treats from over 30 area restaurants and food shops. Some food samples may be subject to a small fee.
This year’s charitable partner is Citizen Advocacy, a local organization that works to partner volunteer advocates with people with disabilities. There will be a team out on the street throughout the day fundraising to support the organization’s efforts.
