Let’s celebrate science, people! October 18 to 27 is National Science and Technology Week. Here in Ottawa, there are loads of special events on tap, not to mention fun, hands-on ways to learn.
Discover the role of science and technology in agriculture at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum. Cool on-site demonstrations are featured daily through the week and there’s also a panel discussion October 22 called Innovations in Water Monitoring and Treatment. For details, see cafmuseum.techno-science.ca.
You’ll be dazzled (electrified?) by all the exciting offerings at the Canada Science and Technology Museum. Family astronomy workshops, solar observing, public stargazing, robotics demonstrations and a scavenger hunt are on the schedule. Incredible Towers, Gooey Chemistry, Chemistry on Stage and Rubik’s Cube Challenge are other highlights. See www.sciencetech.technomuses.ca for details.
Sunday, October 20, the whole family can enjoy Science Funfest, an open house at Natural Resources Canada’s Booth Street Complex, on the corner of Carling Avenue and Booth Street. It runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Got any rocks or fossils? Bring um to be IDed. You can also try mining for cookies, identifying exotic insects, discovering DNA and investigating a wind tunnel.
At the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, you can take a guided tour, sit at the controls of an aircraft and take part in a K’NEX building activity. For details, see www.aviation.technomuses.ca.
