Don’t miss it: The second Clutter & Cupcakes for CHEO event is taking place June 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Gregory’s School in Nepean (Meadowlands Drive near Woodroffe Avenue). Shop til you drop, sell your stuff and purchase (okay, sample too) some yummy cupcakes.
This special event is backed by a truly uplifting story. Last August, five-year-old Gabriella was diagnosed with a Wilms’ tumor (also called nephroblastoma) on her right kidney. Thankfully, CHEO and Candlelighters provided excellent care and support. So Gabriella’s mom, Lidia, decided to find a way to give back – community style. And within a few short weeks the first event was organized.
Gabriella is now six. Following three surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy, hospital visits and extensive testing, she has recently returned to school after being told the cancer is gone.
“We know the journey ahead will be nerve-wracking as she will be closely monitored for the effects of her treatment, but right now she is doing well so we are enjoying every moment together,” says Lidia. “We are truly thankful for all the excellent care that we receive from CHEO and Candlelighters so we are going ahead with the second annual CLUTTER & CUPCAKES FOR CHEO!”
This time, the event is a fun, family-oriented celebration. Last year, $7500 was raised and Lidia’s hoping to top that number.
“As a community garage and sweet sale event, we will have lots of clutter for sale from various peeps and this year we will also have local businesses … [and artisans] selling!
You can still book your own table to sell clutter and/or crafts! It only requires a minimum $10 donation. Email email@example.com to help out. You can also donate your clutter so it can be sold for charity! Lidia and her crew need to receive the items by June 19. They can also pick it up.
Over 20 local bakeries have donated their sweets, equaling about 1000 items! Check out unique flavours from the Flour Shoppe, Sophie Bifield Cake Company, Little Cakes, Sarah J’s Cupcakes, The Cake Whisperer, Urban Baking Co., Hearty Bakery and more!
Note: Bring your own containers to save money.
Gabriella’s Groupies bracelets and T-shirts will be available for sale.
There are also many raffle prizes, including Justin Bieber tickets, a Big Rig basket, a Shoppers beauty basket, gift certificates and a Bridgehead basket.
The Crepe Joy food truck, Farmer’s Pick panini, cold drinks, Tim Hortons coffee and timbits and more!
Gabriella’s lemonade stand will feature another cancer fighter, Matteo, raising money for another cancer patient: Phoebe Rose!
Radical science shows, face painting and a special visit from Spartacat are also in the plans.
