Oh you know, just casually combining two of my favourite things on the planet. Oranges double dipped in raw cacao choco anyone?? I’ll take two. Or perhaps six…
Such a simple treat this was. Now of course I’m not the first to take citrus and plunge them into a pool of chocolate devotion, but in this case I’ve attempted to make it all plant based and packed with clean ingredients. The coconut oil does an impeccable job at forming a solid chocolate layer on the orange once cooled. I ate all of these for breakfast, but they are a great anytime snack.
I enjoyed this combination so immensely I may just start a chocolate-orange series. Any thoughts? If you enjoy the mix as much as I do let me know. I found adding the cacao nibs on top was a delightful extra crunch. However, as important as the chocolate is, so is the orange. Make sure you choose a ripe, in season orange. This will make all the juicy difference.
Recipe:
Time to prepare: 5 – 10 minutes
Time before you can eat: 30 – 45 minutes
Makes enough for: 2 large dipped oranges
2 Large Oranges, peeled
Chocolate Sauce:
2 tbsp Cacao Nibs
2 tbsp Almond Butter
1/3 c Coconut Oil, melted
2 tsp Cacao Powder
Directions:
1. Put all chocolate sauce ingredients in Vitamix or high speed blender. Blend until smooth.
2. Dip Orange slices into chocolate sauce and place on parchment paper on plate and put in freezer for 10 minutes.
3. Once chocolate is solid, remove from freezer. Now repeat step #2. Then repeat yet again if you’re a chocolate fanatic. Sprinkle cacao nibs on top if you would like!
4. Once chocolate has solidified transfer to fridge until ready to eat.
