Orpheus Musical Theatre is bringing this dynamic modern fairytale to life

Get set for some high-energy, foot tapping fun at Centrepointe Theatre. Orpheus Musical Theatre Society is presenting the high-octane favourite Footloose from November 23 to December 2. A cast of 42 local singers, dancers and actors will light up the stage and bring this modern fairytale to life, with humour, heart and hit songs such as Let’s Hear It for the Boy, Almost Paradise, Holding Out for a Hero and Footloose.

“Here you will find songs you are probably familiar with, energetic dances and teenage rebellion but also I hope you will find a story of loss, redemption and the real healing power of joy,” artistic director Shaun Toohey mentions in his director’s notes.

The story is about a city boy who moves to a small town where dancing and rock music have been banned. However, its message is about the power of keeping an open mind and heart.

The cast includes Ken Tucker as Rev. Shaw Moore, Donna Castonguay as Vi Moore, Courtney Vezina as Ariel Moore, Mathieu-Philippe Perras as  Ren McCormack and Debbie Millett as Ethel McCormack.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through Centrepointe Theatre online, or Box Office.  Discounts are available for students, seniors and children.

Since 1906, Orpheus has been entertaining local audiences with three musicals per season, featuring the best local performers and professional musicians. Volunteers are welcome for all areas of theatre production, from designing to production of sets, props and costumes.
