Fun night out in support of

Is there anything on your calendar for the evening of May 30? No? Get tickets for Swirl and Twirl. This fundraising event at Jean Pigott Place (Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West) features wine, beer and food tastings, entertainment and a silent auction in support of an important cause.

The event is in its ninth year and 2013 proceeds go to, the Ottawa-based international organization dedicated to elimination of bullying and discrimination.

It’ll be easy to raise a toast to Swirl and Twirl.  Besides the array of wines and beers, there’ll also be great munchies from Todric’s Catering, as well as tunes by DJ Chris Murray and Ashley Gauthier.

Tickets are only $30 in advance, and if you purchase them from, every penny will be used to stop bullying, discrimination, homophobia and transphobia in schools here in Ottawa.

Each ticket sold will allow the organization to educate one classroom of youth, and if the goal of selling 50 tickets is reached, there’ll be a special Gay-Straight Alliance Youth Field Trip, training 50 additional youth on how to make their schools safer.

This year, buying tickets is really easy. You can purchase them online by emailing Simply indicate your name and the number of tickets. As a way of saying Thank You, those who buy their tickets from will:

  • Get a tax receipt for the price of their tickets
  • Entered into a draw for Cirque du Soleil: Totem Tickets
