Join the Great Canadian Chill

This polar bear dip helps stop kids’ cancer cold!

Any plans yet to celebrate the new year? Why not start 2013 with a splash by signing up for the Sears Great Canadian Chill? It’s Ottawa’s polar bear dip for a good cause. Money raised at this (very, very) cool fundraiser goes towards Canada’s pediatric oncology centres and hospitals such as CHEO. Anyone over 12 years old can participate, so bring your youngsters, extended family members and friends and mark the annual holiday in a memorable, positive way.

In fact, you can start collecting pledges and donations right now.  The “Chill” takes place at Brittania Beach January 1, with check-in at 11 a.m., followed by a costume contest at noon. “Chillers” run for the water starting at 12:30. You can run in, race out and you’re done!

You’re welcome to bring your own cheering section, since there will be lots of room for the audience, including a heated tent. In fact, if somebody in your crew decides, at the last minute, to take the jump as well, eleventh-hour entries are accepted.  However, everyone must sign a waiver and wear proper footwear (water socks, old running shoes or rubber shoes) in order to participate.

You can register at http://ottawa.thesearsgreatcanadianchill.ca. For details, email info@thesearsgreatcanadianchill.ca or call 1 855 93-CHILL (24455).
