Lace Up for Hockey Day
If you’re not already on the canal or heading to an ODR to play shinny, you might want to grab your skates, a helmet, your gloves and a stick.
Saturday, February 14, is Hockey Day in Ottawa. From 1 to 3 pm, you’re encouraged to lace up and take to one of the city’s outdoor rinks for an afternoon of fun on ice. Enjoy a game of pick-up hockey, skating, and physical fitness while showing support for the community volunteers who work all winter to maintain our local rinks. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather and wear your helmet.
And kids in the Carlington area are in luck. Carlington Community Association is hosting Mini Shinny on Hockey Day in Ottawa.
There’ll be pick-up hockey and other fun and games on ice from 1 to 3 p.m. at Alexander Park Outdoor Rink. You’re welcome to bring the family to cheer from the sidelines and enjoy some cookies and hot chocolate. All are welcome!
For some exciting hockey action, check out the Beaver Cup Pond Hockey Festival on the Rideau Canal at Dow’s Lake. The tournament runs all day Saturday and continues Sunday with the finals at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Malones Restaurant and the Dow’s Lake Pavillion will be the pond hockey headquarters and people are encouraged to cheer on the teams. About 300 players are participating, on 36 teams, so there’ll be lots of excitement.
