The Smiths Falls Civitan Club is making history. Just days ago, the club invited LGBT Lanark County to join forces, in a move that will see LGBT Lanark County become the first LGBT Civitan Club in the world.
Thrilled with the offer and excited to be joining the world-class volunteer organization of clubs, LGBT Lanark County accepted the invitation. Now, members are looking forward to their inaugural, charter celebration in Smiths Falls September 16.
Dating back to 1917 in Alabama, the Civitan club is a motivated web of volunteer-run clubs with the sole purpose of building good citizenship by serving individual and community needs. The mandate is a perfect fit for LGBT Lanark County, an organization whose purpose is to help lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members of the community to feel safe, welcome and supported.
This small-town move exemplifies big community spirit and it’s quite a civic feat. LGBT Lanark County officials say they’re honored that Smiths Falls Civitan Club members are such terrific supporters of their community development goals that they have offered to officially work together in this regard … and that Lanark County is the first community to take such a monumental step!
The charter night is scheduled for Monday, September 16 at the Smiths Falls Civitan Club.
