Opera Lyra Ottawa launches its 28th season this month, with Puccini’s La Bohème at the National Arts Centre. There are four shows only, September 8, 10, 12 and 15, conducted by Alexander Shelley. Joyce El-Khoury plays the starring role of Mimi. A graduate of the Opera Lyra Studio and the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development program, Ms. El-Khoury has performed on the international stage at the Met and the Welsh National Orchestra. Opera Lyra’s new General Director, John Peter Jefferies, will be in place for the production.
A romantic and entertaining show, La Bohème tells the tale of Rodolfo, a poet, and Mimì, a seamstress who lives down the hall in the Latin Quarter of Paris in the 1840s.
Dedicated to the music and passion of opera, Opera Lyra Ottawa is committed to showcasing Canadian talents and educating young audiences. For details about the NAC shows, visit www.operalyra.ca
