Shiver me timbers! There’s nothing like the joy on wee land lubbers’ faces when they set sail aboard Ottawa’s own pirate ship! With a little face paint, some pirate gear and temporary tattoos, they’re transformed into swashbuckling scoundrels with make-believe parrots or hook arms or peg legs.
Walking the plank? Finding treasure? Sending evil Pirate Pete overboard to Davy Jones’ Locker? Arrr, matey. Anything can happen.
Have you embarked on a Pirate Adventures trip yet? It’s an Ottawa escapade offering thrills and fun “high-seas” shenanigans that will delight everybody from Grandpa to the littlest scallywag.
This interactive theatre cruise takes place on a real pirate ship at Mooney’s Bay. It’s 75 minutes of non-stop action that will include discovering a treasure map, solving mysteries and the map’s secrets, defending the ship against evil “Pirate Pete,” making Pete walk the plank (ahar!), hauling the plunder aboard, sharing the treasure, singing, dancing and carrying on, pirate-style.
Kids of all ages love it. You can get in touch with your inner Captain Hook, entertain out-of-town guests and book a pirate adventure for a special occasion or social group. Birthday parties? Absolutely. If you want to dazzle your little matey or deckhand with a Pirate Adventures party, there are four different options from which to choose. All include the 75-minute trek on the water, plus festivities on land afterward. The boat is wheelchair accessible and strollers are allowed onboard as well.
Cruises run 7 days a week as long as there’s interest, and reservations are recommended. Custom packages and times are available, including evening sails. You’ll find the 50-foot wooden pirate ship at 588 Hog’s Back Road (Mooney’s Bay). To reserve a party or family cruise, call 613 859-5199 and check
www.pirateadventures.ca for details. It’s recommended you arrive a half an hour before departure to get “pirate ready” with a costume, face paint and a pirate name tag.
