Want to start the new year off with some family fun? Come in from the cold and enjoy The Blizzard of Oz at the Gladstone Theatre. This production, running from January 3 to 8, is brought to us from the same folks who presented the very popular Freezing: The Musical, and Freezing II: Bigger, Bold, Colder … (are you noticing a theme here? Might it be appropriate for our -30 Ottawa winters?)
This January’s show marks the third annual family musical in the style of a panto, presented by Ottawa Musicals.
The heroine, Dottie, gets lost in a snowstorm and ends up in a strange land. Along the way she meets Bob Cat, Al Loy and The Faircrow. Lost in the big city, they get help from Glenda the Good while they try to stop Wanda the Wicked from taking over the Ruby Slipper Cafe.
This fun, twisted story is full of music, dance, over the top characters, jokes for both the young and old, local Ottawa references and more.
The cast includes Glenda the Good: Constant Bernard as Glenda the Good, Chad Connell as Al Loy, Will Lamond as Bob Cat, Emilie O’Brien as Dottie, Cara Pantalone as Auntie Hem, Shelley Simester as Wanda the Wicked and Jessica Vandenberg as The Faircrow.
The Blizzard of Oz is written and directed by Ken MacDougall, who also wrote Freezing and directed the production last year.
You will be over the rainbow while you laugh, tap your toes and boo the bad guy in this year’s all new family musical. The Blizzard of Oz runs for one week only. Once tickets are gone, they’re gone. Tickets to The Blizzard of Oz will make a great Christmas gift, especially for people who are hard to buy for. The show really is for all ages.
