Dickinson Days

Join the Fun in Manotick
Pancakes, wagon rides, a fishing derby and live entertainment are on the agenda, and you don’t want to miss Pioneer Day at Watson’s Mill

Manotick is the place to be this weekend.  The historic village on the banks of the Rideau Rideau is hosting its annual Dickinson Days festivities June 1 and 2 – and there’s fun to be had for the whole family! The two-day community-wide celebration is actually a big birthday party honouring Moss Kent Dickinson, founder of the village.

The action kicks off Friday with a parade, starting from the Manotick Arena at 6:30 p.m and going through town. Then it’s back to the arena for a family show with Junkyard Symphony at 8:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at Centennial Park.

Saturday’s schedule includes a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. at Dickinson Square. There’s also live entertainment at the square from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., plus a Bimini Beachwear fashion show at 1 p.m. Horse-drawn wagon rides, a kids’ fishing derby and a fundraiser for autism are taking place as well. In the evening, there’s family entertainment from 6 to 10 p.m.

Watson’s Mill is another destination you don’t want to miss during Dickinson Days. The1860s grist and flour mill, located in Dickinson Square, is holding its annual Pioneer Day as part of the community fest. You can take a trip back in time at this unique heritage site that still functions as a mill. See how the flour is milled, take in the pioneer demonstrations, join in the games and crafts or dress up in latter-day costumes and take pictures in a pioneer photo booth. Watson’s Mill’s Pioneer Day runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Other events coming up at the mill include a strawberry social June 24 and a beer tasting  July 13.
The mill is located at 5525 Dickinson Street. There is free parking on-site, as well as a used book sale daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
