Jumpstart Teens

Are your adolescents short on things to do? The Personal Development Institute at AlgonquinCollege is offering some really cool Career Sampler Summer Camps that will get them off the couch and pumped about their future

And what a sampling! The lineup includes Cake Boss: The Art of Cake Decorating; Culinary Reality Series; Make Waves – Produce Your Own Music; Discover the Adrenaline Rush: Police & Public Safety, and Java Jive: Programming Your Own Game. If your kids like to tinker, they may be keen to try Mechanically Inclined: Learn about the 2- and 4-stroke Small Engine or The Ultimate Woodworking Plan. There’s also Movie Making Magic, Inspire Your Imagination with Graphic Design, Décor by YOU Inc., and Capture and Create: An Intro to Photography.

It’s pretty exciting, teen-appealing stuff. Whether your youngster has always wanted to be a cop or a chef or a graphic designer, now’s the chance to find out what each option involves.

Not only do these week-long camps provide an opportunity for kids aged 12-17 to get a feel for potential future careers, they also offer a great, stress-free introduction to a post-secondary setting. “We hope to provide students with an opportunity to explore various career paths and also experience all that our college can offer,” notes Kathy Terada of Algonquin’s Workforce and Personal Development Department.   “The career samplers are a great introduction to the college and some of the full time programs available for consideration upon completion of secondary studies.”
